The Cal State Student Association (CSSA) is grateful for the decision the Chancellor has made to not go forward with a tuition increase. This decision firmly places the responsibility to support the California State University (CSU) system, and its financial needs, completely on the legislature and Governor Brown.
Students need quality faculty, staff, and administrators to succeed in college. Students need safe and modern facilities to learn in. Students need additional programs to remove institutional barriers to their ideal time to degree. The CSU budget request reflects all of these critical needs and should be funded. Without additional funding, campuses will be forced to make cuts that hurt students, hurt employees, and hurt California, at a time when the state has a massive budget surplus.
CSSA is thankful for all the advocacy and activism by all CSU stakeholders, particularly students. These voices on the campuses, at the CSU Board of Trustees, and here in Sacramento have made a tremendous difference. We look forward to continued collaboration with all CSU stakeholders to ensure that the legislature and the governor choose to fully fund the CSU.
